Gnomes appear in many places and cultures. You are likely familiar with garden gnomes, tiny statues made in the likeness of gnomes which people place in the gardens for luck, protection, or just as a decoration. The oldest garden gnome in the world is "Lampy", the Lamport Gnome. A man called Sir Charles Ishham brought 21 garden gnomes back to England from Germany, and placed them all across his property. When he died, his daughters removed 20 of these garden gnomes. Lampy had been out of sight, and so he stayed. You can still visit Lampy in England at Lamport Hall.
The majority of my website will be about living gnomes, but here you can read and learn about gnomes made of resin, concrete, terracotta, etc.
